nanoLOC AVR Module

Small Form RF Module Integrating nanoLOC TRX Transceiver and ATmel AVR Microcontroller

This smart nanoLOC AVR Module is only 35 mm by 14 mm and less than 3 mm thick. Yet, within this small form factor it integrates all the required components for a complete RF module based on Nanotron’s innovative nanoLOC TRX Transceiver. This module uses the Atmel AVR ATmega644 microcontroller and includes a band pass filter, a balun, and an integrated 2.4 GHz chip antenna.

Key Features
Small form factor - only 35 mm by 14 mm and less than 3 mm thick allowing for development of devices requiring minimal size and weight, such as tags and anchor. Low power requirements - due to the 8-bit AVR ATmega644 microcontroller, this RF module requires very low power to operate.
Complete system - includes all required components for a complete RF module. Cerfitications - The AVR RF Module is certified for use in Europe (R&TTE), Japan (ARIB-T66), and the United States (FCC).
Versatile - Can be used as either as a stand-alone WSN system or as part of a sophisticated RTLS.

Typical Applications

The following sample applications are typical of some of the uses of the nanoLOC AVR Module.

Applications
RTLS and Ranging nanoLOC Location Application
Using the ranging capabilities of the nanoLOC chip and a location algorithm in software, the X/Y coordinates of a tag can be calculated in 2D space. An embedded application provides the ranging data, while a Windows®-based application determines the tag location.

nanoLOC Ranging Application

Using the ranging capabilities of the nanoLOC chip and the nanoLOC nTRX Driver, the distance between a tag and a reader can be determined. An embedded application provides ranging data, while a Windows®-based application displays the ranging data results.
Wireless Sensor Networks nanoLOC Talk Application
Using the robust communication capabilities of the nanoLOC chip, this simple chat application demonstrates the use of nanoLOC for point-to-point wireless communication. An embedded application sends and receives chat text while a Windows®-based application displays and provides the chat text.
Cable Replacement RS-232 Cable Replacement Application
With a carrier board, the nanoLOC AVR Module can provide a convenient RS-232 connection where a wired connection could not be established.
