Proven Wireless Technology

Since the middle of the 1990's Nanotron has been analyzing the fundamentals of wireless communications technology. This research has resulted in the following proven wireless technology standards:

  • MDMA (Multi Dimensional Multiple Access) - Chirp Pulses

    MDMA is a modulation technique based on the use of Chirp pulses. Chirps are used in nature by, for example, dolphins and bats for location awareness, usually to locate food and their location in space. These pulses are robust against disturbances and, significantly, can be generated without complex digital circuitry. Consequently, devices using chirp pulses have increased battery lifetime and reduced cost. Furthermore, using MDMA, the data rate of these devices can be adjusted to the needs of the application, which leads to an optimal use of the precious channel capacity.

  • CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) - MDMA in Silicon

    CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) is the first application of MDMA technology. It was developed for applications with medium data rates (1 to 2 Mbps) and that require low power consumption and high range. Consequently, the duration of the chirp pulse in CSS has been fixed at 1 microsecond allowing data rates of up to 2 Mbps.

  • SDS-TWR (Symmetrical Double-Sided Two Way Ranging) - Ranging Calculations for Location Awareness

    SDS-TWR, which stands for a rather complex calculation process, is a methodology used to determine the distance between two wireless devices, or stations, that use CSS. This rather awkward abbreviation actually summarizes rather succinctly how this process works. It is a methodology that rapidly repeats a series of calculations between two stations to achieve an fairly accurate determination of the distance between them. This measurement then can be used with the aid of a one or more other stations to locate a station in three-dimensional space.

  • MCP (Multi Choice Precoding) - Radio Echo Processing

    MCP (Multi Choice Precoding) is used to process radio echoes, which are an inevitable occurrence in wireless communication. This technique pushes the intelligence for dealing with echoes to the transmitter. In this way, the signal will be modified before transmission to such an extent that it reaches the receiver in a perfect form (precoding). MCP, then, anticipates the change of the signal during transmission. How? It uses interfering radio echoes caused by multipath propagation constructively, which significantly increases the range of signals, especially under difficult conditions. And like MDMA, MCP works without complicated digital circuitry, thus reducing the cost for wireless devices.

  • EBM (Energy Budget Management) - Using Transmission Energy Wisely

    EBM (Energy Budget Management) is a methodology to determine exactly how much energy is required to transmit a quality signal to a wireless device from a base station, without wasting energy in the process. This results in the saving of energy per transmission, which can allow for the increase in the number of stations served within a given radius, or to increase the size of the radius in which the base station transmits quality links.
